Katie has asthma. It’s a real bummer, we discovered it because she had a nasty cold, and was playing in the garage (where the landlord recently had some repair work done that included cutting some cement), her coughing left over from the cold was getting worse, and I was hearing a wheeze sound. It got worse whenever she played outside or in the garage or got out of breath. So we had her checked, and lo and behold – she came home with an inhaler, allergy meds, and a grumpy face.
I was getting pretty sick of her being so grumpy about her medicine. So since one big kiss for children’s hospital was going on, we decided it was a good idea to take the kids down to the radiothon and explain a thing or two about how good they have it. We gathered up the kids and headed down there with a measely 20 dollar donation, and took the kids there. I think it helped them to see how lucky they are, and how important it is to be grateful for what you have, cause there is always someone with less. While I was sad for her to have anything she needed medical help with, I was glad that she got a chance to learn from it.
