Just a Home Maker

This post is a tribute to one of the most wonderful women I have ever known, Ann Bailey. She is one of my friend’s from High School’s mom. She was my first and best example of a LDS mom and an LDS family. She is a talented musician and writer. I have a CD she put out when I was in high school, and have loved it and used it for a very long time. She still performs at church events all over the country. She wrote the song lyrics which I am about to quote. If you need your own copy, you can find it here.

I’m just a homemaker

I’m just a home maker, at least that’s what they say. No degrees and no professional skills, for which someone will pay. But we’ve enough experience to fill any resume, So we’ll list a few, right here for you, without further delay.

Chorus:

I’m an economist, an accountant, a horticulturist, and maid. I’ve been a chauffer, chef, a marriage counselor, a pro in commerce and in trade. Been a reporter, teacher, bodyguard, a coach and full time referee, I know entertainment, civil service, and applied psychology, I’ve worked in maintenance, I’ve worked in plumbing, And I do art and pediatrics. Been a designer, a fair mechanic, and I’m a pro at geriatrics. I’ve worked in fashion and in nursing, been a secretary of renown. Hey I’m the manager, and the doctor when our MD’s out of town! Well I can decorate, and run computers great, and am quite the politician. A cosmetologist, marine biologist, and even novice electrician. And on top of all of this I try to keep a spotless house, be civil with my children and romantic with my spouse!

Every woman is a homemaker no matter what else she might do. But if we don’t watch out the world convinces us that there are better things for us to do. Yet, we are here to say it’s quite the opposite, keeping a home enhances every skill. No other job on earth can bring the grief and mirth, that homemaking will. So let me tell you how my day is filled: (repeat chorus)

So remember this profession is the best thing you can be. And if right now you have to add another one, remember this one’s top priority. If someone thinks you’re here because you have no choice, be sure to tell them it’s not the case. Just say it loud and clear, Hey I’m a HOMEMAKER cause that’s my favorite place! Then you tell them what you really face: (repeat chorus)

(end)

Thanks Ann, for putting in such a fun and beautiful way what I am always trying to say! There are more challenges in my home on a daily basis than I ever had at work, and it’s the most daunting and fulfilling job I ever had. Not that any job out there is worth less, but none is worth more!
