Ode to Magic Eraser

I can not believe how many times this past week I have googled “how to remove _______ from walls”. Even more amazing to me is that the answer has so often been Magic Eraser. And it hasn’t been just walls. My girls took coloring supplies outside of the coloring zone, and I paid the price. Aiden found them and colored on everything with crayons and markers. Walls, windows, doors, closet doors, door jams, sills, Katie, etc. Usually I don’t get too concerned when he is quiet upstairs, he doesn’t usually do this. He also doesn’t usually have access to these things without supervision. Anyway, he also got into my makeup and made over the bathroom. Lipstick, eyeliner, deodorant, perfume etc on the walls, drawers, counters, and himself. The make up took a little dish soap to cut any oil in the products, then magic eraser too care of the rest. Every surface. Hairspray took the marker off everything but the wall, leaving a residue, that magic eraser disposed of. Magic eraser got the crayon and pencil off everything from the bed frames to the walls. Magic eraser also got a yellow curry stain, a koolaid stain and a slurpee stain that had been on my formica counter top out. My cousin gave me 2, and after using them to clean the coloring mess, I bought more, and boy was I glad. Even Tim last night said, “Wow, we could be a commercial for this thing!”

Everyone who knows me know I like a lot more than an ounce of protection when it comes to keeping my kids out of trouble. Especially at Aiden’s age, when I can barely reason with him. His understanding is growing, but most days I am not sure that’s a good thing. Every time he hears I am not going to do what he wants, well the falling, kicking, and screaming set in. Now of course I don’t give in, but this is definately the downside to this age. It is so fun to watch him learn, and explore. Not so fun to watch him get angry, or destructive. At least armed with patience and a magic eraser, there hasn’t been any permanent damage yet.
